Man in 80s in custody after shooting death of man in 60s

CO MAYO, Ireland - A man in his 60s has been shot dead, and a man in his 80s has been arrested over the incident.

The shooting occurred just before midnight night on Tuesday night Aghamore, Ballyhaunis Co.Mayo.

The man who was shot died at the scene. His body was removed to Mayo University Hospital where a post mortem was carried out by a Pathologist from the State Pathologists Office later on Wednesday. Gardai said the results would not be released because of operational reasons.

The scene was saved off for examination by investigators from the Garda Technical Bureau.

The man in his 80s who was arrested was earlier being detained at Castlebar Garda Station, however he has since been released without charge. A report will be prepared for the Director of Prosecutions.

An incident room has been established at Claremorris Garda Station.
