Xander Schauffele shot a third-round 68 to hold onto a one-stroke lead heading into the final round at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics tournament at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kawagoe, Japan.

Home favorite Hideki Matsuyama is hot on his heels in second place after finishing the weather-delayed second round at 7-under 64 and then shooting a 67 in the third round.

Schauffele, who is at 14-under for the tournament, struggled through the round, not hitting his first fairway until the eighth hole. But he closed with a clucth birdie on No. 18 to retain the lead.

Schauffele planned to get some extra practice in to prepare for the final push.

"I think I feel like yesterday I wouldn't say I was firing on all cylinders but things were clicking kind of coming home and, man, was it a different day today," Schauffele said. "So, I'm going to try and get some better feels on the range going into tomorrow."

Matsuyama, who won the Masters in April despite a challenge from Schauffele, expects a tough final round on Sunday.

"I played with Xander in the third and fourth day together at the Masters," Matsuyama said. "I'm sure Xander will come out determined to win the gold medal tomorrow, so hopefully on my end too I'm going to come out strong on the mental side."

Mexico's Carlos Ortiz and Great Britain's Paul Casey are tied for third at 12-under.

Ireland's Rory McIlroy is among a group of four players another stroke back at 11-under.
