DUBLIN, Ireland: A snapshot of 2021 Ireland has been released by the Central Statistics Office showing, among other things, Jack is still the most popular boy's name, while Grace is number one among newborn girls.
Other statistics revealed that there are fewer teenage mothers in Ireland, more residents living in Dublin, and those living in the southwest of Ireland are among the unhappiest in the country.
The information was released in the Central Statistics Office Statistical Yearbook of Ireland, which also reported that Ireland's population rose by 34,000 through April 2021, and Ireland's overall population incresed to more than five million for the first time since the 1851 Census.
Also, the number of residents of Dublin increased by 8,300 in the year to April 2021, representing 28.5 percent of Ireland's population.
The area with the smallest population was the Midlands, with just over 307,000 people, making up only 6.1 percent of the nation's population.
Additionally, there were 830 births to women under 20 in 2020, compared to 1,199 in 2015.
Grace outdrew Fiadh as the most popular baby name for girls in 2020. And Jack continues to be the most popular boy's name.
Statistics showed that only half the normal number of couples were wed in 2020, most likely as a result of the pandemic.
